RCG Certificate – (SITHGAM022-Provide responsible gambling services)
The Responsible Conduct of Gambling is a fully accredited, Nationally Recognised Training unit of competency from the Tourism, Travel and Hospitality Training Package with the course code ‘SITHGAM022- Provide responsible gambling services’.
This course is also known as RCG, is a 1 day, trainer led course delivered via a reliable cloud platform for video and audio conferencing and concurrently working with our online Learning Management System to deliver a virtual classroom in the comfort of your home. This unit of competency is the foundation for the mandatory Responsible Conduct of Gambling training for all new hoteliers, secretary managers and gaming-related staff in order to satisfy the requirements of the Liquor & Gaming Regulations of NSW.

What will I learn?
The guidelines contained in this course aim to encourage a responsible, caring and professional approach to the Responsible Conduct of Gambling. Social responsibility is essential to minimise the harm associated with problem gambling and to foster venues where responsible conduct of gambling is not only employed but also accepted as best practise. The NSW Government’s harm minimisation approach in addressing liquor misuse and abuse has now been adapted for gambling abuses. This course aims to provide easy access to information including:
- The Law.
- Responsible and ethical promotion of gambling.
- Strategies designed to ensure that gambling is conducted responsibly and that prevention strategies are in place to inform and educate gambling patrons at risk.
- The benefits of adopting a responsible attitude to the conduct of gambling.
- An ethical environment in which to socialise and work.
- A change in focus from the promotion of gambling to the promotion of quality service facilities.
- A reduction in the social problems associated with gambling abuse.
Pre-requisites
There are no academic pre-requisites for this course.
To ensure learners have the best possible chance at completing and understanding the required knowledge and skills the RCG course has a combination of plain English, photos, videos and questions.
You are required to provide a Valid Photo ID comprising either;
- a current NSW motor vehicle driver or rider’s licence or permit, or a licence or permit issued by another state or territory or under the law of another country;
- a current NSW Photo Card;
- a current proof of age card issued by a public authority of the Commonwealth or of another
state or territory; or - a valid and current Australian or foreign passport.

Pre-Course Homework

For your course, there is a 2 stage process you must complete prior to your scheduled course date.
Stage 1 – MUST BE COMPLETED WITHIN 48-72 HOURS OF PAYMENT
Completion of enrolment, submission of photo id, review of course information , structure of the day and an agreement to our Virtual Classroom Code of Conduct.
STAGE 2 -MUST BE COMPLETED 48 HOURS BEFORE COURSE COMMENCES
Involves a ‘Systems check’ of your equipment (Computer/Laptop and Webcam) to ensure we minimise any problems on the morning of the course. An appointment is made for this as part of stage 1 and involves a 5-10 minute Zoom call to check you have reliable and stable internet. See below for more information re Computer Equipment.
Your seat is confirmed once Stage 1 and 2 have been completed.
Validating Student Identity using Webcam
During this course and in order to validate the identity of the student for whom the final certificate will be issued, Liquor & Gaming NSW require the provider to assure the identity of the student.
In order to satisfy this requirement, photographs will be taken periodically and randomly via your webcam and only whilst the student is logged in and completing a task within the course.
Before commencing each new task in the course, students may be prompted to ‘allow’ the use of their webcam/camera.
Can I work straight after completing my course?
No, Once you have completed and passed your course you will then be required to complete an RCG online assessment to obtain your interim certificate. Without an interim you cannot legally work in NSW in a gaming area. This certificate will enable you to work on licenced premises for 90 days. During this time you must get your Photo Competency Card or you wont be able to work after the 90 days are expired.
L&GNSW Online RCG Assessment and Interim certificate
After completion of the above all students must complete the RCG Online assessment as set by Liquor and Gaming NSW to legally work in NSW in a gaming area.
The online assessment has a total of 25 questions (single and multiple choice) allocated from a pool of questions of similar value. Students require 100% to pass and have unlimited attempts. System provides further learning opportunities through just-in-time feedback and the provision of unlimited attempts to address incorrect questions prior to moving on. No time restriction to complete, however students must pass to receive their interim certificate to work in the industry.
On completion, students will receive an automated email from L&GNSW with an RCG interim certificate attached along with instructions on how to obtain a RCG Competency card or add the RCG competency to an existing RSA card.
Service NSW will then verify your identity and a photo will be taken and added to your profile for processing. Cards take 3-4 weeks to arrive hence the 90 day validity on the first page of the interim.
You can also download the Service NSW App onto your phone and setup your Digital ID (Valid for working) on your phone typically within 24 hours of visiting Service NSW.
The cost of the card is $48 and is included in the course cost.

Statements of Attainment
‘Statements of Attainment’ will be issued by 1-AAA Barmax Pty Ltd – provider number 41242. These may be used as an RSA for working on licenced premises in Queensland, South Australia and Western Australia.
Computer Equipment and Internet requirements
Students are required to have basic computer skills to access the on-line learning and assessment components of this course, as well as having access to a computer and reliable internet to support video conferencing throughout the day.
Students will also need to have access to a webcam connected to your computer, or a laptop with a built in camera.
NB. This course cannot be undertaken using a smartphone as the keyboard provided with a computer offers options to ease problem solving within the quizzes and assessments where as a mobile phone does not offer this functionality.
